Throwback: Happy 104th Birthday, Charlie Parker!

I’m currently in Rouyn-Noranda, Québec to cover the 22nd FME. Although I’ll be very busy over the course of the next five days or so, the show must continue as best as we can, right?

August is a very busy month in music history:

The legendary Charlie “Bird” Parker was born on this day 104 years ago. Parker was a pioneer of the bebop sound, along with Dizzy Gillespie, Art Tatum and several others. Parker was also an influential figure to the Beatniks, because to them, he personified the jazz musician as uncompromising and intellectual, rather than just an entertainer.

Happy birthday, Bird. Happy birthday, wherever you are!
