Throwback: Happy 104th Birthday, Ella Fitzgerald!

I have a Twitter follower, who runs a Today in Music History blog. And as you can imagine, his blog often tells me about important occasions that I would have not known or have forgotten about. So as you can imagine, I got up today and had breakfast and coffee with mom and looked for my man’s music history blog tweets. Today would have been the legendary Ella Fitzgerald‘s 104 birthday.

Much of the live footage I was able to find on YouTube was shot in the late 60s. But interestingly enough, I came across footage of Ella performing at Montreux Jazz Festival in 1969 and that set included covers of then-contemporary material including Cream‘s “Sunshine of Your Love” and The Beatles‘ “Hey Jude.” Trippy, man. But seriously, Ella was one of the greatest vocalists to have ever lived. Happy birthday, Ella! Happy birthday, wherever you are!
