Throwback: Happy 104th Birthday, Hal David!

We’ve somehow made it to May y’all. 5 months in to a brutal slog of a calendar year. I’m exhausted and fed up. And I’m sure most of y’all out there feel the same. The terrible thing is that my sense is that things are going to get a lot worse. We’re in hell.

But there’s music, art, small pleasures, and every day joys. We’ll cling to that as much as possible.

Hal David along with Burt Bacharach were responsible for some of the most gorgeous, endearing and beloved pop songs ever written. David’s and Bacharach’s work with the incomparable Dionne Warwick always comes to mind — in particular “Walk on By,” and “Say a Little Prayer,” are personal favorites. But David and Bacharach are also responsible for my favorite Carpenters song ever, “Close To You.”

David was born 104 years ago today. Happy belated birthday, sir! Happy birthday wherever you are!
