Throwback: Happy 113th Birthday, Lightnin’ Hopkins!

2025 is rushing by. It’s March. And March is a very busy month in music history.

• The Monkees‘ Mickey Dolenz celebrated his 80th — yes, 80th! — birthday on March 8
• The pioneering Ornette Coleman was born 95 years ago on March 9

The legendary Lightnin’ Hopkins was born on this day 113 years ago. Hopkins work influenced the work of beloved legends Townes Van Zandt, Hank Williams, Jr. and a fellow Texan by the name of Stevie Ray Vaughan. And in addition Hopkins was an inaugural inductee to the Blues Hall of Fame back in 1980.
