May is a busy month in music history:
- The 91st anniversary of the legendary godfather of soul James Brown was on May 3
- The legendary jazz bassist Ron Carter celebrates his 87th birthday today.
The late and supremely great soul artist Sharon Jones was born on this day 68 years ago today. I was lucky to catch Jones perform a handful of times, and she was one of the most dynamic and entertaining performers around.
Happy birthday, Sharon! Happy birthday, wherever you are!
