Throwback: Happy Belated 70th Birthday, Alex Lifeson!

This past weekend, I was very busy: I was covering this year’s Afropunk Festival in Greenpoint Terminal Market in a unique collaboration between this site and my Aussie friends Musicology.xyz. (More on that later.)

As you can imagine, I wound up being so busy that I didn’t get a chance to mention that on Sunday, August 27, Rush‘s Alex Lifeson celebrated his 70th birthday.

As I’ve mentioned a number of times on this site: I’ve been a Rush fan for a bit. An ex-girlfriend of mine was a huge Rush fan, and while we were together, she gave me the obsessive fan’s deep dive into the band. We wound up seeing them four times. She loved them immensely. It turned out that ex was a terrible human being. But I kept the band and claimed them for myself.

Happy birthday, Alex! May there be many, many, many more!
