Late last night, I was going through Instagram when I came across Questlove‘s account and learned that William Hart, the founder and lead singer of The Delfonics died.
Hart had a remarkable 57 year music career, writing and recording some gorgeous and beloved hits — many that have been covered and sampled countless times over. Sadly, with Hart’s death, all but one of the original members of the group are dead.
I only saw Hart once, with The Roots at the Okayplayer Holiday Party at Brooklyn Bowl back in 2012. That night was a legendary night: The Roots played as the backing band for Q-Tip and Talib Kweli and for William Hart.
Rest in peace, sir. Play some of those gorgeous Delfonics songs today in all of their honor.
