Born in Ann Arbor, Mi, the Brooklyn-based producer, DJ and electronic music artist Robert Lester, best known to the EDM world as Robert Lux has spun at some of the New York area’s premiere clubs including Marquee, Brooklyn Bowl (the unofficial home office of JOVM these days). OUTPUT, Hudson Terrace and Highline Ballroom, as well as some of nationally-known festivals and concerts including Super Bowl XLVIII, Lollapalooza, Rombello Cruise, Summer Camp and others. And he’s managed those achievements, thanks in part to a sound that possesses elements of contemporary pop music, old school house music, R&B and others. In fact, his latest single, “This City (Misses You)” is a collaboration with Kalen, the lead vocalist and keyboardist of local indie act, Kalen and The Sky Thieves.

Sonically, the song is comprised of thick, almost syrupy synth chords cascading upon the listener, skittering percussion and sinuous, seductive bass paired with Kalen’s equally seductively cooed vocals and it bears an uncanny resemblance to the house music I would have heard at Webster Hall back in 2000 or so; however, it has slick, modern feel that also reminds me of the releases by labels such as 100% Silk, Sphera Records and others.
