In the five years I’ve been running JOVM, I’ve heard from an increasing number of labels, artists, bands, band managers and publicity firms located in some rather interesting and far-flung places across our little blue ball. I recently received an email from a Brooklyn-based producer and electronic music artist Sam Friedman, who records and performs under the moniker Nerve Leak. “Alone,” the second single from his forthcoming debut EP, Disconnected consists of a house music-influenced kick drum, layers of undulating synths, swirling electronics and plaintive, lovelorn vocals which float ethereally over the mix. Interestingly, the song dimly channels – to my ears, at least – Octo Octa’s Between Two Selves as the song possesses a subtle sensuality just underneath the surface.
