Jacqueline King is a Chicago-born, Berlin-educated, London-trained, Los Angeles-based electronic music producer and DJ, best known in electronic music circles as Mister Lady. With Mister Lady, King draws from a huge catalog of musical influences, which frequently find their way into her sets and her work while specializing in techno, melodic techno and electronica.
In a relatively short period of time, King has been busy: She has released four, independently released EPs and four singles with more coming. And building upon a growing profile, she has opened for Ramiro Lopez, Stephan Jolk, Uto Karem and Amol Reon among others. She has also played sets in London, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Nashville, Goa, India and Bengaluru, India.
King’s latest Mister Lady single “Celestial” is a mesmerizing and trance-inducing bit of deep house built a slick synthesis of elements of melodic house and industrial techno featuring bursts of glistening and oscillating keys and skittering, tweeter and woofer rattling boom bap. While sonically bringing Kraftwerk‘s Trans Europe Express and Tour de France, as well as Octo Octa‘s Between Two Selves to mind, at least to my ears, “Celestial” possess a hip-hop-inspired swagger.
