Founded and led by Québec-based singer/songwriter, musician and producer Urhiel Madran-Cyr, the alt pop/electro pop project Aramis can trace its history back to when Cyr along with two classmates and friends in CEGEP, a Québécois mix of a college prep school, junior college and/or vocational school. After spending several years as a band, releasing three EPs and touring to support them, Madran-Cyr has continued the project as a solo project.
His solo debut EP and then his solo full-length debut, Pour éviter les commotions was released to critical applause, and was supported with sets at Francouvertes, Pop Montréal. The album also received airplay on La semaine des 4 Julie and Tout le monde en parle.
The French Canadian artist’s Courtepointe mixtape is slated for a September 6, 2024 release through Bonbonbon Records. The mixtape’s latest single “Baby,” a collaboration with Jules Vert is a slickly produced, summery and dance floor friendly bit of synth pop — but at its core, the song is a simultaneously a sweet expression of longing and desire, and a flirty come-on.
The accompanying video was filmed and edited by Madran-Cyr and employs split screens: A young woman dancing at a party and on the shore on the shore. The French Canadian artist in a shiny blue blazer is on the right, dancing on the beach. So far away, yet so close, eh? Lyrics in French with English translation are on a animated note pad on the bottom.
