Los Angeles-based duo TANGIENTS — multi-instrumentalists Chelsea Ray and Be Hussey — specialize in a unique take on shoegaze that draws from 80s post-punk, 90s shoegaze and dream pop anchored around Chelsea Ray’s dream-like delivery and a melodic wall of guitars. And with the release of their first two singles, 2018’s “White Foam” and 2019’s “Hazel,” the Los Angeles-based duo carved a name for themselves among fans of dreamy post-punk, ethereal wave and shoegaze.
Building upon a growing profile within the post-punk, shoegaze and dream pop scenes, the duo will be releasing their long-awaited full-length debut, Embers on May 1, 2026. “Embers is about self-discovery and the one thing we all must do: survive. To me, it is a reminder to live in the now,” the band’s Chelsea Ray explains.
The album’s first single “The Ether” features Chelsea Ray’s remarkably Elizabeth Fraser-like croon floating over shimmering and swirling, reverb-soaked guitar textures paired with a tight, boom-bap-like backbeat. While seemingly channeling Cocteau Twins and Beach House, “The Ether” conveys a swooning, heart-wrenching longing.
Directed by Joseph Rubinstein, the accompanying video is a cinematically shot surreal fever dream that sees the band’s Chelsea Ray in a milk bath adored with flower petals, laying under gauzy lace and then later, the duo with caked, cracked clay on their bodies.

The music video for “The Ether” enchants with an evocative fantasy quality, featuring vocalist Chelsea Ray’s sweetly delivered siren calls from a celestial milk bath adorned with flower petals. Surreal cracked-skin effects on both band members lend additional vulnerability and surrealism to the aesthetic. Layers of dreamy gauze create more interdimensional immersion — and a nebulous state of consciousness where reality meets the immaterial, and experience transcends the ordinary. “The Ether” music video is now streaming on YouTube.
