New Video: Verona on Venus Shares Tool-like “Rodent”

Best known for his work in DevilDriver, guitarist and vocalist Michael Spreitzer stepped out into the spotlight as a frontman with his latest project Verona on Venus, which sees him pushing the scope of his musical endeavors.

Spreitzer’s Verona on Venus full-length debut Popular Delusions was released earlier this year. The album’s brooding and expansive first single “Rodent” is built around an expansive quiet-loud-quiet song structure featuring some expressive yet roaring riffage, thunderous drumming and some textured and dreamy interludes paired with Maynard James Keenan-like vocals. While “Rodent” will draw some comparisons to Keenan’s Tool and A Perfect Circle, it reveals a musician, who can craft a seemingly complex yet accessible ripper rooted in some dexterous and expressive playing.

Directed by Vicente Cordero of Industrialism Films, the incredibly cinematic video touches upon some of the song’s dark themes.
