The Amsterdam, Netherlands-based electronic duo of Full Crate x Mar have garnered attention both across the blogosphere and in underground EDM circles for the better part of the past year; in fact the duo’s latest single “Man x Woman” had received over 1,000,000 YouTube and SoundCloud plays, and holds Majestic Casual’s record for most Facebook fan page shares. They also had a rather successful year as solo artists as Full Crate had worked with the folks at Red Bull Music Academy.
The Dutch’s duo single “Nobody Else” was released last year to critical praise across the blogosphere with major players such as XLR8R and OkayPlayer paying attention – and once you heard the single you’d understand why as the single comprised of thick, syrupy synths, swirling electronics, thumping bass and drums and a slowed down vocal sample possessed both a slickly modern production style and a unforced soulfulness.
Recently, the Dutch electronic duo enlisted wunderkind producer to remix “Nobody Else.” Carter’s remix retains many of the elements of the original such as the slowed down vocal sample and syrupy synths around the hook while making the song feel warmer and vibier – in fact, it follows some of his attention-grabbing production style with hot flashes of cymbal, swirling electronics, shimmering synths and a lot of reverb. Also there’s a focus on the song’s actual lyrics to lead into the hook in a way that the club version of the song doesn’t. Regardless, much like the original it manages modern production with a soulfulness that’s highly uncommon in house music or EDM circles. And in many ways it shows that both acts will be stars soon enough.
