While scrolling on Instgram, a jazz history account I follow managed to post that the legendary pianist and composer Thelonious Monk was born 104 years ago today. There are few pianists, who could be as playful, inventive or string as hard as Monk could.
YouTube can be a wonderful place and I stumbled across some live footage of Monk and his quartet playing sets in Europe. It’s fascinating to see the legend playing during the height of his creative powers. Of course, more importantly: Happy birthday, Thelonious! Happy birthday, wherever you are!
