If you’re a true hip-hop head, you’d remember that we lost Mobb Deep’s Prodigy six years ago as a result of complications from sickle cell anemia. He was just a few months shy of what would have been his 43rd birthday. Because he was four and-a-half years or so older than me, his death hit close to home: I pretty much grew up listening to Mobb Deep on the radio every single weekend in the 90s — and they are proud Queens boys, repping Queensbridge Houses so very hard.
Prodigy was born 49 years ago today. So let’s celebrate his life and music once again. Happy birthday, brother! Happy birthday, wherever you are!
