Throwback: Happy 58th Birthday, Heavy D!

We’ve somehow made it to May y’all. 5 months in to a brutal slog of a calendar year. I’m exhausted and fed up. And I’m sure most of y’all out there feel the same. The terrible thing is that my sense is that things are going to get a lot worse. We’re in hell.

But there’s music, art, small pleasures, and every day joys. We’ll cling to that as much as possible.

Heavy D was born 58 years ago today. We lost him at the tragically too young age of 44. When I was a boy, I was a huge Heavy D fan. He was among a lengthy list of favorite artists of the late 80s and early 90s. I loved “The Overweight Lover” so much that I can remember asking my parents to get me the Peaceful Journey album for a Christmas gift.

Going through these videos brought back a lot of memories.

Happy birthday, brother! Happy birthday, wherever you are!
