Throwback: Happy 59th Birthday, Greg Nice!

Welp, we’ve made it to May y’all. This year has been yet another infuriating, soul-crushingly brutal slog. I’m furious and exhausted. And if you have a conscience and a soul, you feel the same. There isn’t an easy way out of this hell. 

But there’s music, art, small pleasures, and every day joys. We’ll cling to that as much as possible in between fighting for the rights and futures for our loved ones — and ourselves.

Nice & Smooth‘s Gregory “Greg Nice” Mays celebrates his 59th birthday today. As a child of the 80s, who watched a lot of Yo! MTV Raps and MTV completely unsupervised, Nice & Smooth brings back a ton of childhood memories. So here’s a true story: About a decade or so ago, I was at a hip-hop show at Prospect Park. The DJ played Gangstarr”s “Dwyck” feat. Nice & Smooth and I surprised a young hip hop head by the fact that I knew the entire song — by memory.
