This year has been a brutal, soul-sucking slog. And we have at least 3 more brutal and soul-sucking years left of this administration to go — if they don’t kill us all, first. So let’s get to it.

- Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott celebrated his 66th birthday on August 1
- Public Enemy‘s Chuck D. celebrated his 64th birthday on August 1
Butch Vig celebrates his 70th — yes, y’all 70th! — birthday today. As a producer he has worked with Nirvana (famously on Nevermind), Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, L7, Sonic Youth and a lengthy list of others. But he may be best known these days for being Garbage‘s drummer.
Garbage’s first two albums, 1995’s self-titled and 1998’s Version 2.0 were critically applauded and commercially successful. But they were also a big part of my life’s soundtrack as a high schooler and college student.
