We may have tragically lost Tom Petty four years ago but today is a day to celebrate: Tom Petty was born 71 years ago today. Personally, I think the man has never written a terrible song. And Full Moon Fever is arguably one of the best rock records ever written and recorded. Don’t believe me? Revisit the album if you haven’t listened to it in a while.
What makes Tom Petty great — in my book, at least — is that he could express our desire to be free, to be us on our own terms, to live our dreams in a such a simple yet profound way. Happy birthday, Tom! Happy birthday, out in the great wide open! We fucking miss you.
