June is a busy month in music history:
- The 65th anniversary of Prince‘s birth was on June 7
- Ice Cube celebrated his 54th birthday on June 15
- The 52nd anniversary of 2Pac/Tupac Shakur‘s birth was on June 16
- Paul McCartney celebrated his 81st birthday on June 18
- Cyndi Lauper celebrated her 70th birthday on June 22
- The 94th anniversary of June Carter Cash is today.
Somehow, I forgot about someone important, one of the greatest and beloved producers and DJs in hip-hop history, Pete Rock celebrated his 53rd birthday on June 21. I’ve adored his work with CL Smooth since I was a kid, and it’s been a part of my own personal soundtrack — and if you’re a hip-hop head, it’s been a part of yours, too.
Happy belated birthday, Pete! May there be many, many, many more!
