We’ve managed to make it to June. I don’t know about you, but this year has been a brutal, fucked up slog. But it’s Pride Month — and there’s still art, music and small joys.
June is a another busy month for music birthdays:
- Alanis Morisette celebrated her 51st birthday today on June 1
- The Rolling Stones‘ Charlie Watts was born 84 years ago on June 2
Cypress HIll’s and Prophets of Rage’s B Real celebrated his 55th — yes, ya’ll 55th! — birthday yesterday. Along with his group mates Sen Dog and DJ Muggs, the trio’s first five albums were critically acclaimed and commercially successful, selling over 20 million copies globally while amassing multi-platinum and platinum certifications.
Along with a handful of acts including NWA, MC Eiht, Ice T, Too $hort and a list of others, Cypress Hill are considered pioneers and legends of West Coast hip-hop. And interestingly enough, they were the first hip-hop group to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Happy belated birthday, legend! May there be many, many more!
