This past week or so has been a rather auspicious one in music history:
- Nate Dogg was born 53 years ago on August 19.
- Led Zeppelin‘s legendary frontman Robert Plant turned 74 on August 20.
- KRS One, one of the greatest living emcees turned 57 on August 20
- Isaac Hayes was born 80 years ago on August 20
- The Clash‘s Joe Strummer was born 70 years ago on August 21
- John Lee Hooker was born 105 years ago on August 22.
- Alice in Chains‘ first frontman Layne Staley was born 55 years ago on August 22.
- Rush‘s Alex Lifeson turned 69 on August 27.
This past week has been very busy for me, and I wound up forgetting that Garbage‘s Shirley Manson turned 56 on August 26. We need to celebrate Manson for her work with Garbage — and perhaps more important, for being a badass, feminist icon, who has inspired a whole generation of badass women.
Happy belated birthday, Ms. Manson! May there be many, many, many more!
