If you’ve been following JOVM for the past year or so, you’d remember coming across several posts about Sylvan Esso – a rather unique collaboration between Ameila Meath, lead vocalist of of folk group Mountain Man and Nick Sanborn, bassist of Megafaun. They’re collaboration is radically different than the work that each member of the duo has been individually known for as the duo’s work is primarily electronic-based; in fact, Sanborn uses synths, processed beats and other electronics to create atmospheric yet pulsating grooves that are paired with Heath’s ethereal and coquettish vocals.

The duo released several singles from their self-titeld debut album, which dropped earlier this year, and as a result they’ve become blogosphere darlings. “Coffee” one of my favorite songs from the album is a slow-burning, seductive track comprised of swirling electronics, twinkling percussion and hip-hop inspired beats and Heath’s sensual yet playful vocals. In some way, the track evokes the sensation of waking up next to a new lover and quietly wondering what will happen next, if anything. Check out the duo’s most recent appearance on Conan.
