Emerging Brooklyn-based indie pop act Bingo Club, frequently finds its creative mastermind Martin Rousselot surrounding himself with friends — both imaginary and and real” vocalists and musicians of all stripes, style sand genres come to there project to play according to their own current state of mind, to their own aspirations and desires. Interestingly, the project’s latest effort Separated EP was written and recored while touring through Europe, the Sahara Desert, the Himalayas and the States — and as a result of the global spanning nature of its creation, the EP’s material features lyrics written and sung in Spanish, French and English.
Sonically, the EP’s material features soothing vocals paired with dreamy, soft rock-like instrumentation inspired by Durutti Column, Mazzy Star, Beach House, Ariel Pink, Procol Harum and others — and although laid back and ethereal, the material generally manages to possess a melancholy quality. The EP’s latest single, EP title track “Separated” is a breezy track centered around glistening guitar and synth arpeggios, ethereal and coquettish vocals and stuttering beats. Evoking the sensation of being awoken from a gentle and pleasant reverie and daydreaming on a gorgeous late summer afternoon, the track thematically focuses on the sensation of collective isolation and inner voyages — which is especially fitting as a result of pandemic related closures and restrictions.
The recently released video was filmed in the gorgeous Himalayan Valley of the Gods by Adrien Nicolay on 16mm film and it further emphasizes the trippy, exploratory, and infectious nature of the song.
