With the release of their self-titled debut effort through Sub Pop Records, the Toronto, ON-based trio Metz received both national and international attention for a sludgy, face-melting power chord-based sound reminiscent of Bleach and In Utereo-era Nirvana, A Place to Bury Strangers, Japandroids and others. The trio’s sophomore effort, II was released last year and the album further cements the band’s reputation for bruising, mosh pit worthy music — while being the most forceful, frenzied, and furious material they’ve released to date.
Now, if you’ve been frequenting the site over the past month or so, you might recall that I wrote about “Spit You Out,” a song that scowls, stomps and melts faces with a furious abandon — while reminding me of Nirvana’s “Dive” and “Radio Friendly Unit Shifter.” The album’s latest single “Eraser” is an equally furious song featuring thundering drumming, sludgy, sleazy power chords and howled lyrics. It’s the sort of song you should play loudly — and then jump into a mosh pit.
The recently released music video features shaky psychedelic imagery — silhouettes of the band headbanging to the song look like nuclear detonations while at other points, the video looks like a badly tuned TV.
