Throwback: Black History Month: Chaka Khan

It’s Black History Month. And over the course of the month, I’ll pay tribute to black artists across a wide and diverse array of genres and styles. These posts should serve as an important reminder that the Black experience is the American experience, that Black culture is American culture and that Black lives and Black art matter.

Sadly this month won’t be a comprehensive study of Black music; it’ll be a bit more idiosyncratic because — well, JOVM. But, there’s always Google and plenty of other websites for more information.

So on the first day of the month, I wanted to pay tribute to one of the greatest voices in soul and pop history — Chaka Khan. Goodness, that voice. Let’s celebrate this goddess and give her flowers every single day while we still have her.
