41 years ago today, MTV went on the air. And the first video they aired — fittingly! — was The Buggles “Video Killed the Radio Star.”
As a child of the 80s, MTV was a major part of my music-obsessed life. I spent countless hours watching Yo1 MTV Raps, Headbangers Ball, Club MTV, MTV Spring Break, MTV Countdown, 120 Minutes and so much more. At some point in my life, I wanted to be the Black Matt Pinfield. (I think I still do!)
Happy birthday, MTV! I doubt I’d be doing this without you.
