Throwback: Happy 56th Birthday, Al B. Sure!

June is another very busy month for music birthdays:

• Alanis Morisette celebrated her 50th birthday on June 1 
• The Rolling Stones‘ Charlie Watts was born 83 years ago on June 2
• One of the greatest singer/songwriters to ever live, Curtis Mayfield was born 82 years ago on June 3

If you’re a child of the 80s, you’d remember that Al B. Sure! was one of the pioneers of New Jack Swing — and arguably one of the most popular singer/songwriters and performers of the style’s early days. Also, “Nite and Day” is still a real sultry bop.

So Al B Sure! celebrates his 56th birthday, today. We almost lost him a couple of years ago due to some serious health issues, including renal failure. But he has been in much better health over the past year or two. So, let’s celebrate Al and his work today. And may there be many, many, many more!
