Throwback: Happy 57th Birthday, Al B. Sure!

We’ve managed to make it to June. I don’t know about you, but this year has been a brutal, fucked up slog. But it’s Pride Month — and there’s still art, music and small joys.

June is a another busy month for music birthdays:

If you’re a child of the 80s, you’d remember that Al B. Sure! was one of the pioneers of New Jack Swing — and arguably one of the most popular singer/songwriters and performers of the style’s early days. Also, “Nite and Day” is still a real sultry bop.

So Al B Sure! celebrates his 57th birthday, today. We almost lost him a couple of years ago due to some serious health issues, including renal failure. But he has been in much better health over the past couple of years or so. Let’s celebrate Al and his work today.

And may there be many, many more! Happy birthday, brother!
