Throwback: Happy 96th Birthday, June Carter Cash!

We’ve managed to make it to June. I don’t know about you, but this year has been a brutal, fucked up slog. But it’s Pride Month — and there’s still art, music and small joys.

June is a another busy month for music birthdays:

The legendary June Carter Cash was born 96 years ago today. Her importance and influence on country music has been towering: The Carters pioneered what we know as country, and were among the most popular acts, thanks to their syndicated radio program. And as a result, The Carters’ — and in turn, June Carter Cash’s — on the genre has been towering.

I adore many of her duets with Johnny Cash — especially “If I Were a Carpenter.” There’s something about that song that just makes my heart swoon.

Happy birthday June! Happy birthday, wherever you are!
