We’ve made it halfway through 2026 y’all. And for my friends, readers and dearest ones in the LGQBTIA+ community: Happy Pride!
June is a busy month for birthdays.
- Alanis Morisette celebrated her 52nd birthday on June 1
- The Smiths‘ Mike Joyce celebrated his 63rd birthday on June 1
- Brandi Carlile celebrated her 45th birthday on June 1
- Cypress Hill’s and Prophets of Rage’s B Real celebrated his 56th birthday on June 2
- The Rolling Stones‘ Charlie Watts was born 85 years ago.on June 2
- One of the greatest singer/songwriters to ever live, Curtis Mayfield was born 84 years ago on June 3
- Al B. Sure! celebrated his 58th birthday on June 4
The Psychedelic Furs and Love Spit Love frontman Richard Butler celebrates his 70th birthday today. That’s right, 70th, y’all! The Psychedelic Furs are arguably one of the greatest bands of the 80s — and “Pretty In Pink,” is one of the great soundtrack songs ever written.
Happy birthday, Richard! May there be many, many more!

The Joy of Violent Movement is a completely independent and completely D.I.Y. media outlet. Over the course of this site’s 15+ year history, I’ve used my fiercely independent stance to cover music with an eclectic and global perspective that a lot of other publications just don’t have — and will likely never have.
To that end, I could use your support to continue to keep bringing you my unique global perspective on music. There are a number of ways that you can support this work.
I’ve been told that some people would prefer to make a one-time donation because it’s easy and less of an obligation. So, if you’re able to make a one-time donation, there’s a donation box below.
