Throwback: Happy 96th Birthday, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins!

We’ve somehow managed to survive through July so far, eh? Well, July is a busy month in music history.

The incomparable and legendary Screamin’ Jay Hawkins was born on this day 96 years ago. While he was somewhat considered a novelty act, you can see Hawkins’ influence through the work of including Alice Cooper, and countless others. “I Put A Spell On You,” may arguably one of the most covered rock songs ever written, and is considered a bedrock rock ‘n’ roll tune.

Happy birthday, wherever you are, sir!
