Founded in Chicago by Maurice White back in 1969, Earth Wind & Fire, which has prominently featured the likes of Philip Bailey, Verdine White, Ralph Johnson, Larry Dunn, Al McKay, Roland Bautista, Robert Brookins, Sonny Emory, Fred Ravel, Ronnie Laws, Sheldon Reynolds, Andrew Woodfolk and Fred White, among others is one of the most commercially successful acts of their day: Earth, Wind & Fire has sold over 90 million records globally. They have 17 Grammy nominations and have won six. They have 12 American Music Award nominations and have won four. They have received an ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Heritage Award, a BET Lifetime Achievement Award, a Soul Train Legend Award, a NARAS Signature Governor’s Award, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2012 Congressional Horizon Award and they were a Kennedy Center Honors Honoree back in 2019.

Earth, Wind & Fire has been behind countless songs that so many of us have loved — and they’ve given so many people so much joy, too. I was saddened to hear of Fred White’s death today.

So let’s celebrate Fred White’s amazing contributions to our lives and his amazing music today.
