Throwback: Happy 45th Birthday, Brandi Carlile!

We’ve made it halfway through 2026 y’all. And for my friends, readers and dearest ones in the LGQBTIA+ community: Happy Pride!

June is a busy month for birthdays.

Brandi Carlile celebrates her 45th birthday today. Thought her career, which currently spans eight studio albums — 2005’s self-titled, 2007’s The Story, 2009’s Give Up the Ghost, 2012’s Bear Creek, 2015’s The Firewatcher’s Daughter, 2018’s By the Way, I Forgive You, 2021’s In These Silent Days and last year’s Returning to Myself — the Washington State-born singer/songwriter and musician has received 11 Grammy Awards, two Emmy Awards and she was nominated for an Oscar.

She’s also a founding member of the all-female supergroup The Highwomen, which also featured Amanda Shires, Marren Morris and Natalie Hemby. The Highwomen’s critically and commercially successful 2019 self-titled debut saw the quartet winning a Grammy Award for Best Country Song for “Crowded Table.”

Carlile is arguably one of the best songwriters of her era — and live, her and her band are amazing.

Happy birthday, Brandi!

And if you’ve been frequenting this site and have been following me for some time, you’d recall that I photographed her back in 2018:

The Joy of Violent Movement is a completely independent and completely D.I.Y. media outlet. Over the course of this site’s 15+ year history, I’ve used my fiercely independent stance to cover music with an eclectic and global perspective that a lot of other publications just don’t have — and will likely never have.

To that end, I could use your support to continue to keep bringing you my unique global perspective on music. There are a number of ways that you can support this work.

I’ve been told that some people would prefer to make a one-time donation because it’s easy and less of an obligation. So, if you’re able to make a one-time donation, there’s a donation box below.

Anything you can give is very much appreciated. It can and does make a real difference, y’all.
